Big Rig Dangling off Tracy Overpass

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY March 1, 2018 (CBS13) – A big rig crashed Thursday and was hanging off an overpass south of Tracy. The crash happened late Thursday morning near the Westley Rest Area at the eastbound Interstate 5 and 580 connector. The big rig was removed from the area. Fortunately there were no injuries resulting from the accident. Traffic, however was snarled for miles surrounding the area for several hours after the wreck was cleared.

It was later determined that weather played a factor in this incident as it does in so many others!

In light of the recent rain we have been hit with in the area, we want to share a few things we have learned about vehicle accidents caused by inclement weather.

Every year in the US, poor weather conditions are cited as a factor in over 13,000 collisions, and that make up for 23% of all motor vehicle accidents in the country.

Fog, ice, rain, and even snow can create hazardous driving conditions here in Northern California. Often, vehicles that are travelling faster than is safe for the conditions are unable to stop in time on a wet, icy or low-visibility roadway, and cause accidents.
