A little bit about Carmichael..
Carmichael, CA started off in the early 1900’s as 2,000 acres purchased by Daniel Carmichael, called these first 2,00 acres Carmichael Colony No. 1. Later Daniel Carmichael purchased another 1,000 acres which was called Carmichael Colony No. 2. Then, Carmichael split up the colonies into 10 acre lots and sold them for $1,500. The population began to grow and businesses started to open up. It started off with a couple grocery stores, a bar and a restaurant. One of the businesses that opened up in the early days of Carmichael is the Rose Tree and it is still opened today. Through time Carmichael has grown into a thriving suburban area with a growing population, excellent schools, and growing businesses.

Located in Carmichael is Effie Yeaw Nature Center, it is a place to immerse in wildlife conveniently nestled in an urban area. The Effie Yeaw Nature Center is set along 100 acres of oak woodland along the American River. At the nature center visitors learn about the importance of preserving wild life and natural resources. The Effie Yeaw Nature Center has grown a large amount when it first stared, it once was only open on weekends and staffed by an occasional part-time ranger, now it provides programs to schools every day, has served millions of visitors, and has 15 professional staff with over 250 volunteers. The nature center is most proud of generations it has served, some visitors who visited as children now bring their own children to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.

Ancil Hoffman Park is a 396 park located in Carmichael. Ancil Hoffman Park is home to the Effie Yeaw Nature Centerk and Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. It is bordered on two sides by the American River making it a great place to enjoy the river and launch out small water crafts such as rafts and tubes. Trails weave in, out, and around Ancil Hoffman Park making it the perfect place to observe and enjoy the nature at the park, there are different hiking & equestrian trails.

Jensen Botanical Garden is a hidden gem tucked away in Carmichael right off Fair Oaks Blvd. The garden was founded in 1958 my Charles Jensen after his retirement. Over time him and his wife cleared the land and started planting Magnolias, Azaleas, Dogwoods and Japanese Maples. Already on the land were Oaks, Coastal Redwoods and blackberry brambles. He enjoyed showing the garden to visitors and and let people use it for weddings and parties. After his death a group of citizens joined to make a committee to preserve the garden, eventually it became property of the Carmichael Park and Recreation District. Today, the garden is always open to visitors and volunteers keep it maintained. Jensen Botanical Garden features the Nature Path for the Blind for the visually impaired. The visually impaired can experience the garden by feeling the different textures and smelling the fragrances of the garden.
